Sudarshan Khanal presented a Case Study on Ecosystem Services of Forests in Nepal and Uttarakhand Himalayas at the BirdLife International’s Workshop on ‘Understanding, Assessing and Monitoring Ecosystem Services for Better Biodiversity Conservation’ held in Kathmandu on November 18, 2010. The presentation notably listed the major ecosystem services, their providers and receivers in Forests of Nepal and Uttarakhand Himalaya; the quantity of carbon pooled in these forests; and the value of forest carbon and recreational services in these areas. The presentation also reviewed existing Payment of Ecosystem Service (PES) around the globe; and explored options for getting PES for mountain forests.
