90 Community health workers in Nepal receive health care kits
In three different events held in Banke, Chitwan and Rupandehi districts, 90 community health workers (CHWs) have been provided with health care kits. The kits were distributed in presence of Dr. Ram Kumar Karki, District Livestock Services Office (DLSO) and Mr. Madhusudan Koirala, District Public Health Office (DPHO) in Chitwan district; Dr. Gandhi Raj Upadhyay, DLSO and Mr. Tanka Prasad Chapagain in Rupandehi district; and Dr. Bed Bahadur K.C., DLSO in Banke district. The final ceremony held in Banke was addressed by Andreas Roettger, the First Counsellor and the Head of the Cooperation of the Delegation of the European Union to Nepal. Under One Health Asia Programme (OHAP) funded by the European Union, and implemented in Nepal by ANSAB in partnership with Relief International, the CHWs received training on identification, response, prevention and reporting of zoonotic diseases prevalent in Nepal. The health kits consisting of basic veterinary health care equipment’s, personal protective equipment’s and mobile phones were provided to CHWs. The health kits also included microscope and portable cool boxes for the community level paravets for initial level screening of zoonotic diseases at community level and bicycles to female community health volunteers (FCHVs) to increase their mobility in the locality. With these health care kits, more efficient service delivery to the community is anticipated from CHWs in reducing the zoonoses effect.
